​Oresteia

​

I started working Aeschylus’s Oresteia as a project for my scenography course, but soon I realized I was designing a sculptural art installation rather than a theatre stage. I was really intrigued to see my ideas come true as full scale artworks. 

The basic concept of the installation is that each character of the Aeschylus’ trilogy is symbolized by a sculpture. The symbol-sculptures contain the heroes’ role in the story and their archetypal significance.

I use foam because it is a light, soft and squeezable material which fits the idea of these sculptures as theatrical props as well as the concept’s ‘‘surrealism’’ but also contradicts the story’s cruelty.
